SDG 2: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture | The Northern Isolated Community Initiatives (NICI) Fund supports community-led projects for local and Indigenous food production systems with an emphasis on innovative and practical solutions to increase food security across the North. The aim of NICI is aligned with SDG 2 to support a healthier and more sustainable food system. |
This initiative contributes to advancing the following: UN Global Indicator Framework 2.4: "By 2023, ensure sustainable food production systems and implement resilient agricultural practices that increase productivity and production, that help maintain ecosystems, that strengthen capacity for adaptation to climate change, extreme weather, drought, flooding and other disasters and that progressively improve land and soil quality." Canadian Indicator Framework 2.1: "Canadians have access to sufficient, affordable and nutritious food." |
SDG 8: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all | Inclusive Diversification and Economic Advancement in the North (IDEANorth) makes foundational investments in economic infrastructure, sector development and capacity building to help position Northerners in the territories to take advantage of Canada's innovation economy. This program supports SDG 8 to encourage inclusive and sustainable economic growth in Canada. |
This program contributes to advancing: Canadian Indicator Framework ambitions 8.1 "Canadians have access to quality jobs" and 8.5 "Canadians contribute to and benefit from sustainable economic growth"; and, UN Global Indicator Framework target 8.3: "Promote development-oriented policies that support productive activities, decent job creation, entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation, and encourage the formalization and growth of micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises". |
SDG 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries | Through the Northern Indigenous Economic Opportunities Program (NIEOP) CanNor supports greater participation by northern Inuit, First Nations and Métis communities and businesses and enables them to pursue opportunities for employment, income, and wealth creation. This program supports SDG 10 to advance reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and take action to reduce inequality. |
This program contributes to advancing: Canadian Indicator Framework ambitions 10.4: "Canadians live free of discrimination and inequalities are reduced." UN Global Indicator Framework target 10.3: "By 2030, empower and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all, irrespective of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic or other status." |
