Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy and Reports
The Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy (DSDS) describes departmental actions in support of the Federal Sustainable Development Strategy (FSDS) and demonstrates support of the Federal Implementation Plan on the 2030 Agenda, the Greening Government Strategy, and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act. The DSDS provides the actions CanNor will undertake over a DSDS cycle and the progress reports will provide updates on the advances made in meeting commitments until a new DSDS cycle begins. CanNor was a voluntary contributor to the 2019 - 2022 FSDS and CanNor's 2023 - 2027 DSDS is its first mandatory DSDS under the Federal Sustainable Development Act (FSDA), which is to be reported on annually.

CanNor's role in sustainable development
The Government of Canada committed to sustainable development in 2008 by passing the Federal Sustainable Development Act. As a result of the act, a Federal Sustainable Development Strategy (FSDS) is developed every 3 years to present the Government of Canada's sustainable development priorities, goals, targets, and government actions.
For CanNor, sustainable development means considering how decisions impact the social, economic and environmental long-term well-being of Indigenous and Northern communities across the Territories.
CanNor contributes to the Government of Canada's efforts in sustainable development by working to achieve specific sustainable development goals. This work is outlined in CanNor's departmental sustainable development strategy, which will be updated annually and reported on. This strategy reflects the government-wide initiatives used to strengthen accountability and show how CanNor and other government departments are managing sustainable development and supporting and contributing to the FSDS.
